Our Story
The South Island Regional Transport Association (SIRTA) began its journey when the Board of the New Zealand Road Transport Association Region 4 Inc updated its constitution in January 2025, aligning itself with the Incorporated Society’s Act 2022. Recognizing their original name no longer fit its purpose, and with member support, they established SIRTA as a new trading name. This strategic move was to clearly distinguish their identity and fulfill a critical gap in regional and local transport advocacy within the South Island.
SIRTA's dedicated mission is to create an industry wide support system, fostering growth and efficiency in the transport community by advocating for operators at a regional and local level. This vital advocacy extends beyond local councils to encompass bodies like ECAN, associated unitary authorities, and the Department of Conservation, addressing their impact on the transport industry’s ability to serve its customers.
We welcome any transport business or individual interested in playing a vital part in the industry's future by participating in our network and regional advocacy efforts. SIRTA is already actively involved in servicing individual operators with assistance and advice, a commitment we look forward to continuing into the future.
